Is it right to get married under 18?

In this 21st century still parents are forcing their children to get married before they finish their childhood. This is because they feel a girl child as a burden and because of their traditions. So, guys what is child marriage actually means?

CHILD MARRIAGE IS ANY FORMAL MARRIAGE OR INFORMAL UNION WHERE ONE OR BOTH OF THE PARTIES ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE.



In India child marriage has been a tradition for centuries and still in some area’s child marriage didn’t stop. Each year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18. That means every minute 23 girls get married. Child marriage happens across countries, cultures, and regions. Child brides can be found in every region in the world. Over 650 million women alive today were married as children.

HOW CAN WE END CHILD MARRIAGE?

In India some people don’t want a girl child and they only want a boy. in this scenario how can we end this child marriage and how we can save the childhood of a girl child? First, society has to accept the girl child and they have to treat a girl and boys equally. There are some organizations that take care of this child marriages and everyone knows that child marriage is an illegal thing so if you notice any child marriage in your area or in your surroundings please raise your voice and save that poor child. Ending child marriage requires work across all sectors and at all levels. It requires us to understand the complex drivers behind the practice in different contexts and adapt our interventions accordingly.


WHY DOES CHILD MARRIAGE HAPPEN?


Girl, the child has to be saved and should be treated equally with boys. a girl child should get an education. In India they don’t want girl child and educating a girl is an expense to them so they don’t want to keep her until she is 18 years old. In the groom’s side, they need a girl to do household work and to look after their son. And some people say this is a tradition in India. This is how child marriage happens. Child marriage is rooted in gender inequality and the belief that girls and women are somehow inferior to boys and men. Child marriage is a complex issue. Poverty, lack of education, cultural practices, and sustain the practice.

Child marriage is a tradition in many places that happens simply because it has happened for generations. In some communities, when girls start to menstruate, then the community decides that the girl should get married. They think that marriage is the next step to a girl which serves her status as a wife and mother.


POVERTY

Girls from the poor families in the developing world are married as children. families and sometimes girls themselves believe that marriage will be a solution to secure their future. They presume that giving a daughter in marriage allows their family to reduce expenses by ensuring they have one less person to feed, clothe, and educate. In Indian families, they give more preference to a boy’s education than a girl. In some communities where a dowry is paid in return for a bride, it is often welcome income for poor families, in other case bride’s family has to pay the dowry for the groom, they often have to pay less money if the bride is young and uneducated.
